About us

The story behind Hilfort

Hilfort, is the result of an eager and passionate country manager of an international payroll company. When the company decided to close its business, he wasn’t having it. He asked and was permitted to reach out to the company’s (former) clients. Together with a childhood friend, they started in Amersfoort as a small company with a handful of clients who were enthused to continue to work with them. During the initial years, they came to focus on a specific niche within the market, payrolling for highly skilled expat employees in the Netherlands.

Hilfort grew steadily for a number of years, until 2020 when a change in Dutch civil law redefined payrolling. The collective labour agreement (CAO) Hilfort used for its expats suddenly wasn’t viable anymore. Parts of the services Hilfort offered were no longer possible under the new rules the Dutch government imposed. This required a transformation of the business model and the employer of record (EOR) model was born. During this period, Hilfort lost some of its clients but managed to adapt to the challenging market conditions.

Today, years later, Hilfort continues to grow and support businesses and expats in the Netherlands. Hilfort strives every day, to provide a personalized & flexible service whereby we take the time to identify and understand the needs of our clients.
